Maternal Mortality in Haiti & LiveBeyond’s Impact

In 2012, the LiveBeyond maternal health initiative officially began. In just eight years, the rate of maternal mortality has decreased by 60% in Thomazeau, Haiti through these efforts. It is such a joy to see healthy pregnant mothers, and equally as rewarding to see happy and healthy babies born.

Sponsor A Mother Today

We currently have 250 mothers and 200 infants enrolled in the maternal health clinic. This maternal health initiative has collectively served over 3,000 individual mothers, pregnancies, and babies. We are elated that these efforts have significantly reduced maternal and perinatal mortality rates. There has also been an increase in body mass index for mothers and babies.

“Skilled care before, during and after childbirth can save the lives of women and newborns.” – WHO

It is an honor and a privilege to serve these mothers and infants at a time when they are in dire need. The LiveBeyond maternal health clinic provides food, vitamins, healthcare, and maternal health education to each mother enrolled. We enroll these women as early in pregnancy as possible. Each mother and infant receive continued care until one year after childbirth.

In order to enroll more women and expand the maternal health initiative, LiveBeyond has set a goal to sponsor 100 mothers by Mother’s Day. Enrolling one new mother equates to a monthly sponsorship of $40. This sponsorship provides free food, vitamins, healthcare, and maternal health education.

Help us sponsor 100 mothers by Mother’s Day!

As the maternal health initiative grows and expands, the maternal mortality rate in our area of Haiti will continue to dwindle. This means more mothers remain healthy through pregnancy and childbirth. In turn, more healthy babies are born, nourished, and cared for.
