Bringing a baby into the world is an exciting and magnificent experience. After birth, caring and tending to every need becomes incredibly important. This is to ensure the baby has the strongest and healthiest life possible. In developing countries such as Haiti, infant health is crucial to promote a strong and healthy life.
Did you know, according to The World Health Organization, one of the leading causes of death for infants in Haiti is malnutrition?
LiveBeyond knows the vital role that infant health plays in sustaining a healthy community. That is why we focus on infant health for each baby born in the maternal health program. By doing so, the rate of infant mortality has drastically decreased in Thomazeau. We educate each of the mothers on the importance of nutrition and breastfeeding. LiveBeyond also provides food, vitamins, and healthcare to protect and sustain infant health.
The maternal health program is available to mothers from early pregnancy all the way until their child’s first birthday. During this time we monitor the progress and growth of each baby on a weekly basis. Because of this, we are able to quickly detect health concerns and resolve them in a prompt manner since we have frequent contact with the mothers and babies. One goal of the maternal health program is to eradicate malnutrition in our region of Haiti. By doing so, infant health is improving and becoming more sustainable in the Thomazeau community.
